Fine Jade Jewelry, Crafted in Japan

Discover SHISHIDO

01Prologue

This stone found you.

Long before you were born, this stone had already been gathering time deep within the Earth. And now, it is here with you.

Among countless stones, this one found its way to you.
This is where your story with jade begins.

02Who we are

A quiet reminder
of the strength within.

Strength is not about never being broken.
It is about not losing yourself, even when you have been hurt.

SHISHIDO was created as a quiet reminder of the strength that already exists within you.

A fine jade jewelry house, crafted in Japan — created for those who have built a life of their own.

03Why jade

The strength of jade

Around one hundred million years ago, carrying the memory of the sea deep into the Earth, jade was formed through immense pressure and the slow workings of our planet.

What appears to be a single stone is, in fact, made of countless tiny crystals tightly interlocked with one another. Because these crystals support one another, jade has exceptional toughness — the ability to resist breaking even under force.

Jade can crack. It can chip. And yet, it does not easily fall apart.

Strength is not hardness.

Deep within the Earth, under pressure, countless crystals come together to become one stone. In that structure, we see something deeply human.

Jade through time

Jade as a mirror of character

For centuries, jade has been more than an ornament. Across Asia, its beauty and rarity were only part of the reason.

君子比德於玉

Jūn zǐ bǐ dé yú yù

A person of virtue sees human character reflected in jade.

瑕不掩瑜、瑜不掩瑕

Xiá bù yǎn yú, yú bù yǎn xiá

Its flaws do not conceal its beauty, nor does its beauty conceal its flaws.

Not perfection, but the ability to remain wholly yourself — with both beauty and scars intact.

Discover the story of jade

Its warm, luminous presence. Its dense, quiet strength. Its clarity, revealing what lies within. The ancients saw in jade the qualities they wished to cultivate in themselves.

Jade was more than an ornament. It became something through which people could reflect on who they were, and how they wished to live.

To wear jade, and to look upon it, is to be quietly reminded of what already lives within you.

04Craft

Every journey begins with a stone.

No two pieces of natural jade are ever the same. Their layers of color, patterns, thickness, contours, and the way they hold light are all different. At SHISHIDO, we look closely at each stone and choose it for its individuality.

Rather than forcing the stone into a predetermined form, we look for the way its own beauty can be revealed most fully. In some designs, the jade is intentionally set to touch the skin — not simply to be seen, but to be felt.

Design is not only about form. It is about how a person and a piece of jade meet.

The hands of Japan

50+ years of mastery.

Hands that have spent more than half a century working with precious stones. SHISHIDO jewelry is crafted by a Japanese master jeweler with more than 50 years of experience in working with gemstones and precious metals.

No two pieces of natural jade are the same. That means even the same design cannot be made in exactly the same way twice. The artisan reads the individuality of the stone — judging where and how it should be set, adjusting the metal, controlling the pressure, and refining every surface by hand.

The final decisions cannot be made by drawings alone. They come from an eye and a pair of hands shaped by decades of experience.

The final home

Made to protect what matters,
for generations.

In Japan, paulownia boxes have long been used to protect precious objects. Paulownia responds gradually to changes in temperature and humidity, softening sudden shifts inside the box. For this reason, it has long been used to store calligraphy, works of art, and cultural treasures intended to be preserved for generations. Each SHISHIDO box is made from Japanese-grown paulownia.

Each box is tied with sanada-himo, a traditional Japanese woven cord known as the “Samurai Ribbon.” With a history spanning more than 450 years, it was used for sword fittings and armor, and later to tie the boxes that protect precious tea utensils. The way it was tied could reveal whether a box had been opened — the cord served as a seal.

05Ritual

Before it becomes jewelry.

We believe that each stone carries its own distinct energy.

At SHISHIDO, making a piece of jewelry begins by cleansing the stone and offering a prayer. Jade has spent an immense span of time within the Earth. Before it enters the hands of our artisans, we pause to honor that presence.

Not to give the stone something it does not have, but to honor what it already carries.

01

Water · Cleansing

The jade is first cleansed in the flowing waters of a river we have chosen for its natural energy and its harmony with the stone. For SHISHIDO, water marks the beginning — a symbolic act of cleansing and renewal, bringing the stone back to a quiet, balanced state.

02

Moonlight · Restoring

The jade is then placed beneath the light of the full moon. For SHISHIDO, this is a quiet moment for the stone to rest beneath natural light before beginning its next journey.

03

Prayer · Blessing

Before the making begins, the jade is taken to a shrine, where it is purified and blessed. In Japanese tradition, visiting a shrine at a meaningful beginning is a way of expressing gratitude and offering wishes for well-being in the journey ahead. Here, we offer a quiet prayer for the person this stone will one day meet.

04

Craft · Brought to life

Only then does the jade enter the hands of our master artisans. With decades of experience, they read the individuality of each stone — its contours, balance, color, and light — adjusting the setting and finest details by hand. Through their skill and sensitivity, the stone is brought to life as a piece of jewelry, while remaining true to what it has always been.

To you

And then, it comes to you. As you wear it, may it become a quiet reminder of who you are — and the strength already within you.

Jewelry with meaning.

Each piece carries a meaning — and, in several cases, a small movement that becomes a personal ritual. Every piece is made to order, with a stone chosen for you.

Yin & Yang

Balance

Both the light and the shadow are part of you.

Yin and Yang are not opposing forces. Together, they flow, complement one another, and become whole. SHISHIDO expresses Yang through the brilliance of pavé diamonds, and Yin through the quiet beauty of empty space.

When you embrace them both, you return to who you truly are — and rediscover the strength already within.

And only you can choose which energy you need in each moment.

Three Forces

Universe · Earth · Human

Universe. Earth. Human.

A way to remember what is ours to choose.

In Eastern philosophy, these three have long been understood as fundamental forces that shape our existence. SHISHIDO expresses them through three rings, left free to move, turn, and respond to one another.

By letting go of what is beyond our control, we make space for what is meant to come, return to ourselves, and remember what is ours to choose.

When you feel lost in the currents of life, gently turn the three rings.

Turning them becomes a small ritual — a way to bring Universe, Earth, and Human back into harmony.

Alongside the four designs, SHISHIDO makes pieces carved or strung from jade alone — the oldest forms of jade jewelry, in which the stone is worn as it is.

Jade Beads

Beads — A quiet ritual

Strength is not about never losing your way, but finding your way back to yourself, again and again.

For centuries, beads have been held and counted through repetition, prayer, and reflection. One bead follows another, forming an unbroken circle — a rhythm that continues, again and again.

When life pulls you away from who you are, gently trace the jade, bead by bead. A quiet ritual to return to your true self.

Each diamond-set ring carries a meaning:
ONE — Remember your light and strength within.
TWO — Connection between the Universe and you.
THREE — Harmony among the Universe, Earth, and you.

07Made to order

Every piece is made
for one person.

Made by hand in Japan, by artisans with a lifetime at the bench.

After we meet, a stone is chosen for you. It is cleansed and blessed, then brought to life by a master jeweler in Osaka with more than fifty years at the bench, and housed in a paulownia box made in Kyoto. Every setting is adjusted by hand to the stone it holds. It takes time. We believe it should.

I

The meeting

We meet by private appointment — in Hong Kong, in Japan, or online. Our locations change as we travel; the next dates and places are announced here and on Instagram. Appointments are complimentary and without obligation.

II

The stone

We look at your hands, your colors, and the way you live with jewelry, and choose the stone that belongs with you. Because natural jade is never the same twice, your piece will be unlike any other.

III

The commitment

Your size is measured and the order is confirmed with full payment, by credit card or bank transfer. Once confirmed, an order cannot be cancelled. This is what allows each piece to be made for one person only.

IV

Ritual & craft

The stone is cleansed, rested beneath the moon, and blessed at a shrine. Then it is set by hand in our master jeweler’s Osaka workshop and placed in its Kyoto paulownia box. Please allow approximately four months.

V

To you

Your piece arrives with its certificate of natural, untreated Type A jadeite — by insured courier, or placed in your hands at our next meeting.

08Living with jade

Jade gathers time with you.

Touched by the skin. Held in the hand. Worn through everyday life.

For generations, jade has been worn close to the body — and wearing it remains one of the simplest ways to live with and care for the stone. Over time, the stone gathers not only luster, but memory and affection.

Across Asia, jade has been passed from one generation to the next. From mother to child. From grandmother to grandchild. There is a saying in Chinese jade culture: “People nurture jade, and jade, in turn, nurtures people.”

What is inherited is more than a stone.
It carries something of the life that was lived beside it.

Care guide · Natural, untreated Type A jadeite

Jade is not a stone that needs to remain hidden away. It is meant to be worn, and to gather time with you.

After wearing your piece, gently wipe it with a soft cloth. If it needs a deeper clean, wash it gently in lukewarm water with a small amount of mild soap, rinse thoroughly, and dry it with a soft cloth.

Jade is exceptionally tough, but it is not unbreakable. Avoid strong impacts, abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, and sudden exposure to heat.
